Managing Stress

Stress, stress, stress! Do you ever feel like your head is about to explode due to the incessant challenges you face each day? We live in such a fast paced world that the bi-product of it is stress and anxiety. It seems to be a given. But did you also know, how we navigate each problem is our choice? Yes, you are the author of your day. How you manage stress is your choice.

Essentially, the battleground is in the mind. You can set yourself up for a good day or not? But, why would you choose to or want to do the latter? Our thoughts are the culprits that keep us captive and bound for longer than we should. But, we are the ones that have given them permission to do so. So, the simple solution to stress related problems is to change your thinking. You have the inherent power to change every thought. But, I still have the problem, you might say. Yes, I know the circumstances haven’t changed but you have. That’s what makes all the difference. It’s up to you to dis-empower your stinkin’ thinkin’ and think good thoughts. A thought change will absolutely change your attitude. An attitude shift will shape your words and a one hundred and eighty degree turnaround sets you up for a good day.

I have discovered that complaining, winging and whining doesn’t alter what is going on around me. It is not the solution to my dilemma. In fact, it adds insult to injury and increases my anxiety because I have verbalized and elevated the problem which gives it priority and power. A moment of gratification in releasing the problem may feel good for a little while, but then you reap the fallout of your words. This is an issue I had to overcome after the last two traumas. I was dumbstruck when an incessant onslaught of challenges kept coming. Staff problems, house-building problems, relationship misunderstandings and on and on it went. So, what did I do? I complained about it. Wrong choice.

Complaining creates a victim mentality that is hard to shake off. Drawing attention to yourself fuels the fire of self-pity and that is a dangerous place to camp. By changing your words you will pull yourself out of the mire and rise above the circumstances. Make positive affirmations by declaring them out loud. Push past negativism and give voice to the good and the outcome you desire. You may feel awkward at first, but your endorphins will kick in and you will start to feel on top of the world. Once you hear the positive declarations, you will start to believe them. But don’t stop. Practice makes perfect. Start to declare. Start to shout. Give it a go cos today is a good day. Today is a stressfree day!
